AI has been a hot topic for debate, with some saying it is a job destroyer, while others believe it is a job creator. Airbnb’s co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky is firmly in the latter camp. He believes that AI will enable the rise of “millions of new startups” and allow engineers to increase their productivity without the requirement of more people. This could be a great benefit to businesses, but a challenge for job seekers. However, Chesky also believes that AI will make it easier for people to create their own businesses and create a more robust job market.
Not everyone is convinced, though. Business leaders such as Warren Buffett are skeptical of the technology and Elon Musk believes it needs to be regulated to ensure it is net positive. Recent AI pioneers signed a letter warning of the risks AI poses to humanity’s existence and urged policymakers to regulate its growth.
It is clear that AI will have a profound impact on the economy and job market. It is up to policymakers to ensure that the technology is used responsibly and to its greatest potential.
